BeagleBay On her solo debut, Evi H.W. moves a bit away from the blues & alt-rock oriented styles of No Man's Land, Echo Tattoo, & She Tames Chaos, & makes the best trip-hop, soulful groove music since Portishead. For me, this album is her masterpiece thus far & is criminally over-looked. Even a song titled Crazy MFer is sublime. She channels a little Nina Simone on Sleep Needs a Pattern, makes the instruments groan on Spark, & there is an emotive first take version of Ping (later on STC's 2nd album). Favorite track: Sailor's Daughter.
